The Chief Animal Control Officer, under general direction of the Director of Public Health, supervises the activities of the Animal Control Division, manages the Council Bluffs Animal Shelter, issues cattery/kennel licenses and farm permits, and performs the same duties as the Animal Control Officers.

2009-2010 Council Bluffs Urban Deer Management Program

Season Opens September 12, 2009 and closes January 31, 2010 - Archery only! 200 tags are available and can be purchased tags at Woods Sporting Goods -531 Veterans Memorial Hyw.

I-DNR Grants 5 Buck Tags As Incentive For Urban Deer Management Program In C.B.

• GREAT NEWS!!! 99 doe have been taken from the Council Bluffs corporate limits so far this year. Many of these deer have gone to the Iowa HUSH program. The HUSH Program provides venison to the less fortunate at no cost.

• Those bow hunters that have taken 4 doe between September 12, 2009 and October 3, 2009 were eligible to be chosen for a buck tag that can be filled under the same rules as the Council Bluffs Urban Deer Management Program.

• The five lucky hunters are: Mike Boner; Andy Grove; Edward Greer; Ken Haas and Mark Smith. Congratulations to these bow hunters.

• Special mention and thanks goes out to the other bow hunters that have taken four or more deer with our Urban Deer Management Program. They are: Brad Wambold; Nolan Grubbs; Randy Hutchinson and Wayne Plunkett.

Dog and Cat Licenses

All City dog and cat licenses expire each year on December 31st.

• Dog licenses may be purchased, without penalty, until end of business on February 14th each year. A $15.00 penalty will be assessed to each dog license sold on or after February 15th each year.

• Cat licenses may be purchased, without penalty, until end of business on March 14th each year. A $15.00 penalty will be assessed to each cat license sold on or after March 15th each year.
